When I first started working on ScribeCentral.com I didn't realise how much I had to learn about the internet and the entire process of setting up a website with your own domain.
There was no one tutorial I was able to find to show me step by step all the things I had to do.
The actual purchasing of a domain name was relatively easy--then researching a host took a little bit longer. I finally settled on www.your-site.com who have been great to work with and I highly recommend them. The whole time I was doing this I was studying HTML and realising that that wasn't enough. There were these things called Java script, Perl, and Cascading Style Sheets out there. I'm still working on learning these.
In fact I spent so much time learning about all these aspects of the web I forgot to look for content for the site. Fortunately, over the last couple of months, I've managed to generate some interest from people who are keen to become regular contributors to ScribeCentral.com.
This week we have a few of them making their debut on the site. Vince's GONE FISHIN' column focuses on his adventures in Central America. And Vince isn't a guy to tell stories about the one that got away. He has photos of some of the most beautiful fresh water fish I've ever seen.
In addition, Anicycle's photo essay from New York City, which first appeared in May, is back for those who missed it the first time around, this time with an additional commentary sent in by a ScribeCentral.com reader.
An old friend of my, Eric Marks, has also agreed to grace ScribeCentral.com with regular comments about life as a journalist, writer, sports fisherman, and hobbyist. Eric's "Notes from the Gulf of Maine" debut with his observations about a journalist coming to terms with his own humanity in the face of disaster.
And all this has been made possible with the help of the folks at www.movabletype.org who have a dedicated following of MT enthusiasts in their forums ready to help out a guy like me who just wants to get a site up and running.
Hope you enjoy the articles, and don't forget ScribeCentral.com if you've got something to say or catch some interesting shots with that digital camera you got for Christmas last year.
